Though liposuction isn’t usually regarded as a major surgery, usually it causes wide-ranging disruption and side effects on the body systems. So following your liposuction surgery, you must allow lots of time for healing yourself. Here are some tips to recover from liposuction surgery while staying clear of major and minor liposuction side effects.

Wear the compression garments – preferably full-time. And keep it that way for at least 2 weeks. After that, you can wear those part-time. Stay like that for another week. If you want thigh liposuction or buttocks liposuction, the doctor is likely to have you well fitted for a special pair of compression shorts (which looks like girdle). And when it comes to love handle liposuction, the patient is fitted with some sort of elastic vest.

Make a habit of urinating more frequently. You need to stick to this practice for one or two days after the procedure. When you have tumescent liposuction, it’s likely that the body will keep absorbing anesthesia fluids. So the kidneys will keep trying expelling it.

If you feel pain, you need to take some oral analgesics. Avoid taking aspirin unless your doctor orders to do you so. This interferes a lot with clotting. A lot of doctors these days will suggest acetaminophen (this may be with or without any codeine).

Keep eating ONLY lightly at the beginning. This helps reduce the possibility of nausea. You should try saltines as well as a bowl of light and clear soup. This should be the first postoperative meal.

Drink some additional liquids everyday, since this helps the body readjust its fluid balance. In most of the cases, the effects of the anesthesia alter these effects. And put dressings onto those small liposuction wounds which seem to leak. These wounds are likely to stop draining in 48 hours or so.

Avoid taking showers or baths on the initial postoperative day. You should rather wait till the 2nd day, or do just the doctors recommend. Avoid exercising, strenuous lifting and bending over at least for 3 or 4 days. Again, you must not work out aerobically for at least 3 weeks. You will then be able to return to your work. But if you are doing some sort of physically demanding jobs, you have to wait even longer.

Stay connected with the doctor to handle these liposuction side effects well.
